DASCHA POLANCO OF “ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK”

I simply got to show love to a fellow Dominicana: Dascha Polanco! The women of “Orange Is The New Black” were some of the most anticipated to hit the red carpet at the Emmys this evening! Dascha Polanco, known for her role as Dayanara Diaz on the HBO original series was no exception! With bright eyes and a beautiful pink lip, the Dominican siren stunned with the help of makeup artist Lucky Smyler. Here is how to get the look:

DASCHA POLANCO INSPIRATION:
The stunning beauty, Dascha Polanco, is the true definition of a beautiful, feminine and sexy woman. The Emmys red carpet was the perfect opportunity to allow her makeup to amplify these characteristics creating a look that was ethereal yet whimsical -- the look of a goddess.

HER SKIN:

• To achieve a luminous and creamy canvas, Lucky prepped Dascha's skin with SheaMoisture Misting Toner ($10) before applying SheaMoisture Primer ($16) using a foundation brush.
• He then applied SheaMoisture Sheer Liquid Foundation in Yasuni Honey ($15) using a damp sponge and stippling the product to build a smooth, even canvas.
• Using his ring finger, Lucky swept SheaMoisture Concealer in Snowdonia Fawn ($16) under the eyes. To create more shape, he used the Color Correcting Contouring and Highlighting Palette in Medium Light ($25) to sculpt the hairline, cheekbones and jaw area.
• To set, Lucky applied Yala Golden Pressed Powder ($15) - a very warm and sunny color to complete the ethereal look and feel.
• The final effect for the skin was the glow! Using the SheaMoisture Illuminating Powder in Cinnamon Ceylon and Mandalay Dusk ($12), Lucky contoured the temples, cheekbones, jawline and neck before adding a final pop of SheaMoisture Annecy Maroon Mineral Blush ($6) to the apples of the cheeks for whimsical fun.

HER EYES:

• Lucky dusted SheaMosture Eyeshadow in Cecilia ($5) to set the lid and to act as highlight under the brow bone.
• He then mixed the Deysi Eyeshadow with Cecila and applied to the lid using a damp shadow brush to create a more intense pigment.
• To complete, a black liquid liner was applied corner-to-corner and Volumizing and Lengthening Mascara was layered to the lashes.

HER LIPS:

• For a luscious jewel toned lip, Lucky exfoliated, moisturized and primed the lips in one step with SheaMoisture Lip Exfoliator ($8).
• Following this prep, Lucky applied SheaMoisture Roberta Lipstick Crayon ($5) all over, blotted and re-applied.
• The final touch was a generous layer of SheaMoisture Lipgloss in Rosie ($10).

*Create a bold brow by filling in with Eye & Brow Maestro. 
*Apply black liner to the waterline and smudge out, then apply a clear gloss on the lid.

Technique: Apply Maestro Blush to the hollows of the cheek and highlight cheekbones with Fluid Sheer to add definition.

*Trace lip line with liner to keep color in place.

MOVE OVER FISHTAIL BRAID - MEET THE LOBSTER TAIL!

I have always been a fan of the fishtail braid, but since I rarely blow out my hair (or comb it for that matter) I have learned to just admire it from afar. I love how complex it looks but honestly I have no time to even consider a fishtail braid. The lobster tail caught my attention since my hair style is more loose, messy, just-got-out-of-bed look, which is fine since I am the Curl~Gurl. 

Well, there is no denying that the fishtail braid had a great run; from the side to messy to in the ponytail, but Mario Russo, owner and lead stylist of Salon Mario Russo in Boston, believes it’s time for a new tail to have their chance in the spotlight. Cue the Lobster Tail. This messy and textured twist is easy to create and doesn't even requiring braiding skills…just twisting! Depending on the occasion, the Lobster Tail can be as deconstructed or as neat as you like.

NY Fashion Week is almost here and since it's Friday Fashion Flashback on Evcurlgurl.com, I am sharing my amazing backstage beauty experience from the Cynthia Rowley Fall 2014 presentation. Held this past February 12th at the Diamond Horseshoe in NYC, Cynthia Rowley pulled out all the stops for her presentation, complete with trapeze artists spinning from the ceiling and models encased in glass windows. Backstage I mingled with the Cutler/Redken Salon hair team, Dermelect as they created the nail looks and Birchbox on make-up. I even met Jill Hennessy from one my favorite tv shows "Law & Order."

Regardless, both styles had a cohesive feel in that they were both easy and gorgeous.
