NYFW Backstage Beauty with Red Door Spa

BACKSTAGE BEAUTYANGEL SANCHEZ & BRANDON SUN

My good friends at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa (massages, facials and manicures are my weaknesses) invited my backstage the first days of NYFW, so that I could see their amazing hair, makeup and nail teams get the models ready for both the Brandon Sun and Angel Sanchez Fall/Winter shows. Here how it went backstage, through MY eyes, as I get IN THERE: behind, over, under - however possible (without disturbing the artists, of course, lol) to get that perfect shot! Good thing for me, that these makeup & hair artists know me by know and have a pretty good tolerance to my antics!

Brandon Sun

Red Door Spa Beauty Pros:
Angelique Scafarro,
Master Hair Stylist
Iwona Opiola, Nail Technician for Red Door Spa
Cesar Olivas, Makeup Artist for Red Door Spa

The Look:
For Fall/Winter 2014, the feeling is natural, yet deluxe. To accompany Brandon Sun’s incorporation of detailed black leather and fur in rich colors, the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa team used the following techniques:

Hair:
The hairstyle was  tribal chic, with straight sleek hair that incorporates minimal braids as an accent throughout. Angelique styled hair with a dry shampoo on the roots to take out any moisture, and then used a silky serum to smooth out the dry ends.

Make-up:
The look was effortless, minimal and was achieved with perfect skin. To keep the models with dewy skin, along with a matte and fresh t-zone, Cesar uses Red Door Spa Professional Hyaluronic Serum in combination with the Clarifying Vitamin D Serum to prep and revitalize skin. The Hyaluronic Serum is rich in fatty acids and deeply hydrates skin for a flawless makeup application. The Vitamin D Serum is a mix of antioxidants and essential oils to help boost the skin’s clarity for the healthy glow that complemented Brandon’s collection.

A luminous highlighter was used on the top of cheeks, along with a pressed powder to contour the cheek line. Cream blushes were applied to the apples of cheeks for a natural and healthy look. Eyes and lips were matte, with shades in natural tones. The shadows were soft shades of gray, brown and beige. Brow powder was used to define and tame brows. Lipstick in shades that accompany the gorgeous colors in Brandon’s collection, were used.

Nails:

The look was simple, shades of a deep red-brown. Polish is called Shearling Darling, a rich plush ebony red, by Essie.

ANGEL SANCHEZ
'
Designer Angel Sanchez

Red Door Spa Beauty Pros:
Woody Michleb, National Director Hair Design for Red Door SpaIwona Opiola, Nail Technician for Red Door SpaCesar Olivas, Makeup Artist for Red Door Spa

The Look:For Fall/Winter 2014, the designer is taking us back to Colonial times in Latin America where “Beatas,” a group of women who were devoted to God, were judged by society and sometimes imprisoned by their evolving mentalities and untraditional behavior against religion. Many of these women were single, some married and some widow. Through the designer’s collection, you’ll witness how Angel Sanchez uses the capes to represent convent and religion and leather to show liberation.

Hair:To achieve the low-key style, blow dry hair smooth and flat iron for a straight and sleek look. Section hair into a clean middle part, then comb the hair to a tight, low in the nape, ponytail and tie with elastic. Wrap the rest of the hair into a bun and secure with bobby pins. Finish with gloss appeal to calm the frizzy hairs and add shine. Finish with Kerastase Gloss Appeal to perfect the look.

Make-up:
The makeup was minimal and very conservative, showcasing the elegance and beauty of the model and clothes, as she has some mysteriousness to her with intriguing eyes. Skin is perfect and satin, with a mostly matte complexion, highlighted cheeks and brow bone. Makeup lead, Cesar used Red Door Spa Professional Hyaluronic Serum in combination with the Clarifying Vitamin D Serum to prep and revitalize skin. The Hyaluronic Serum is rich in fatty acids and deeply hydrates skin for a flawless makeup application. The Vitamin D Serum is a mix of antioxidants and essential oils to help boost the skin’s clarity for the healthy glow that will complement Angel Sanchez’s collection:

Cheeks are pale, with an extremely soft and matte contour line. Eyebrows are strong, but not too extreme, to represent the dark side “Beatas” used to have during the Colonial times. To achieve a mysterious eye, neutral tones were used, with a matte shadow to contour the outer corners of the eye.
Look: Colonial times in Latin America “Beatas,”

Nails:
The look was very simple, nearly nude, which was achieved with Essie’s Sand Tropez, a light color with a grey/white tone.
