Three weeks ago, I attended the Pikolinos AW15 Men & Women’s Press Preview, where I spent my morning pouring over an exquisite collection of leather footwear and handbags which captivated me. I kept gushing over the shoes worn by the reps and I simply couldn't decide which was my favorite (love them all!) With unique designs, the Pikolinos brand embodies the laid-back attitude of the Mediterranean lifestyle, with naturally treated and exceptionally detailed leather accessories; meticulously crafted in rich colors and finishes. The shoes were lightweight, supple. Overall: absolutely stunning!

Fall/Winter 2015

Colors - Two main inspirations:

• The "new blacks" showcase their elegance, with a refined and sober yet rejuvenated feel. The collection is enveloped in a palette of dusky and wintry tones (leather, blue, or burgundies so dark they are almost black). 

• More pastoral and autumnal colors that remind us of nature: greens, brandy tones, caramel, leathers, browns, touches of orange and mustard... Gray becomes the new neutral that acts as the collection’s base color, in cement, lead, and metallic tones.

Materials:

The whole collection plays with combinations of materials that add freshness and youth to the most understated styles. The metallic colors have a darker base, which provide an aged look; while glossy patent leathers provide a more refined look. For men, the material combinations include leather and suede.

Pikolinos rolled out a fog-like leather dying technique, incorporating it into the men and women’s shoe collections, called Ampique. This process is unique to Pikolinos’ leather tanneries and design team. It represents the creative design aesthetic and forward-thinking mindset of a Mediterranean company with 30-years invested in leather design work.

Now that we've seen the upcoming Pikolinos fall/winter 2015 collection, let's check out the spring/summer line from the Maasai. In its sixth consecutive year, the Maasai collection is hand-stitched leather beaded by hand by the women in Maasai Mara, Kenia. Each sandal is a story of a Maasai woman - her family, hardship and determination to get ahead.

Meticulously crafted, each piece of ornamented leather reflects the strength, values, color and identity of the tribe. Once embroidered, the pieces are sent to Spain where the footwear is completed and released to the distribution channels.
