Betsey Johnson - adore her!
September 10, 2014 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: I had a the best time at Betsey Johnson's Spring/Summer 2015 fashion show in Lincoln Center. Inspired by weddings and promoting marriage equality, the collection consisted of gorgeous and theatrical bridal dresses. The theme was wedding/prenup and talk about a party - no seriously, it was an all-out celebration! Complete with DJ's, wedding cupcakes by Baked by Melissa, balloons, dancing, Queens Willam Belli and Sharon Needles, Real Housewives from Beverly Hills - Camille Grammer, Atlanta - Cynthia Bailey and New York - Kristen Taekman. I mingled backstage with beauty teams: Kryolan Makeup, Sexy Hair and Morgan Taylor, as they got the gals dolled up and ready for the show. Of course I took tons of pictures, but then again, when don't I? (also, I became ONE with the cupcakes.. just saying, they're tiny!)

Kryolan Professional Make-Up

Kryolan’s key makeup artist Kelly Thompson created a dramatic look to fit the show which included models, drag queens and Bravo TV’s Real Housewives. Thompson created a dramatic smokey eye with “doll like” lashes as requested by Betsey who described the eye look as “perfectly imperfect.” First Thompson used Ebony HD Cream Liner as a base with black eye shadow from Kryolan’s Variety 1 Palette. The shape was rounded above the crease, coming around in a soft corner, then circling under the eye like an egg shape with no sharp lines or circles. Eyelashes were key for this look. Kryolan Lashes #9354 and #9361 F4 were stacked on the top eye. Kryolan Lashes #9372 and #9371TV4 were used for the bottom lashes.

To finish the look, Thompson gave the lips bold and intense color with Faceliner #32 filled on the entire lips and then topped with Kryolan “Rock” Lip Stain. Betsey requested a deep red with lots of shine and the lips shaped round, slightly over lined. Betsey described the lips as “red wine colored 50's house wife.” Last but not least a Swarovski Crystal was added on the cheek as a “beauty mark” in classic Betsey Johnson style applied with Kryolan Spirit Gum.

“We were so proud to team up with Betsey Johnson for her Spring/Summer 2015 runway show,” saidKryolan USA CEO Claudia Longo. “Betsey loves color and theatrical makeup which made this partnership a really great fit.”

Sexy Hair

Rafe Hardy, the Artistic Director for Sexy Hair explained to me the inspiration for the show as a "modern-day, messy Marilyn." Marilyn Monroe is the brands ambassador and Sexy Hair is the first hair brand Marilyn has represented, so the inspiration was perfect. Rafe said "hair is your #1 accessory and Betsey is into accessories. We created a "tousel-y feel, faux bob, that's slightly back-combed and regardless how long the hair is, we simply shortened it by braiding the back, pinning it underneath and creating curls which were left loose - with tons of volume. Versatile: great with polished curls pined up, messy curls,
