FASHION WEEK FLASHBACK: Cynthia Rowley Fall 2014

NYFW CYNTHIA ROWLEY FALL 2014:
DERMELECT, CUTLER/REDKEN & BIRCHBOX

NY Fashion Week is almost here and since it's Friday Fashion Flashback on Evcurlgurl.com, I am sharing my amazing backstage beauty experience from the Cynthia Rowley Fall 2014 presentation. Held this past February 12th at the Diamond Horseshoe in NYC, Cynthia Rowley pulled out all the stops for her presentation, complete with trapeze artists spinning from the ceiling and models encased in glass windows. Backstage I mingled with the Cutler/Redken Salon hair team, Dermelect as they created the nail looks and Birchbox on make-up. I even met Jill Hennessy from one my favorite tv shows "Law & Order."

‘Moonbow’ Nail Design Created by Celebrity Manicurist Elle for Dermelect ‘ME’. Inspiration: “Cynthia’s key word describing the inspiration of her collection was ‘moonbows,’ a reflection on the romanticism of her sporty chic line for the Fall 2014 season,” says Elle.“Representing a rainbow of darker shades not using any primary colors, we layered two shades from the same color family on one nail, beginning with a darker red, to orange, yellow, green, indigo and purple to achieve the perfect ‘moonbow’.”

HAIR CUTLER/REDKEN SALON

Lead Stylist Brian Buenaventura for Cutler/Redken Salon. Inspiration: Cynthia's collections always speak to the athletic, sporty girl, after seeing this season's collection, I was inspired to create a look that fun was fun, fresh and completely wearable. I let the hair be down, but incredibly dry with texture, almost a new Bridget Bardot." - Brian Buenaventura for Cutler/Redken Salon

Redken Products Used (Redken.com)
  • Redken Full Frame 07 All-Over Volumizing Mousse $15.50
  • Redken Refresh 01 Aerosol Hair Powder Dry Shampoo $17.00
  • Redken Quick Tease 15 Backcoming Finishing Spray $18.00
  • Redken Forceful 23 Super-Strength Finishing Spray $17.00

Step-by-Step:
  1. Start by applying Redken Full Frame 07 All-Over Volumizing Mousse throughout the hair and blow dry, encouraging volume with the fingers.
  2. Beginning at the bottom of the head, create one-inch high lateral strips and apply liberal amounts of Redken Refresh 01 Aerosal Hair Powder Dry Shampoo.
  3. Holding the hair away from the head, begin teasing at the root with a Mason Pearson brush. As the volume is created, spray with Redken Quick Tease 15 Backcombing Finishing Spray.
  4. Begin on next strip, working up the head until you reach the front hairline.
  5. After the roots are completely teased, add movement using a 2-inch curling iron to create loose waves towards the bottom of the hair.
  6. Create a deep left part and brush hair towards the ear, smoothing hair with the Mason Pearson brush
  7. Tuck the parted hair behind the ear, letting a few whisps fall just in front of the ear.
  8. For a malleable hold, finish by lightly dusting hair with Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray.
